Chhaya Ritual

Said to be a "half-legendary" occult manuscript; presumably this means that copies are very rare. However, Will Benson had a copy [HK Hunt (online text)]. Scott had read the Chhaya Ritual, and hinted at the hidden meanings behind the veiled statements in it [Hydra (online text)].

Based on the title, the Chhaya Ritual might be related to the Hindu goddess Chhaya, the "personification and goddess of shadow, and a consort of Surya, the Hindu sun god. She is the shadow-image or reflection of Saranyu (Sanjna), the first wife of Surya. Chhaya was born from the shadow of Sanjna and replaced Sanjna in her house, after the latter temporarily left her husband." [Chhaya, Wikipedia] "Chhaya then lives as a substitute wife, and the story involves themes of doubling, deception, hidden identity, and a 'shadow self' standing in for the real one." [Claude.ai, 7/30/2026] However, the Chhaya Ritual is unlikely to be a conventional Hindu religious work, given that Will Benson and Scott regarded it as a volume of forbidden knowledge.
