Gnomes
According to Éliphas Lévi, the sovereign of the gnomes is Gob. [Lévi, Transcendental Magic, Its Doctrine and Ritual, Internet Archive, retrieved 08/04/2025] The Hell On Earth narrator read that gnomes "own the kingdom of the North, and they exert the melancholic influence over the temperament of man. Their sign is the Bull, and they are commanded by the Magic Sword. Their sovereign is Gob." He read that "Steel alone guards and commands gnomes." To summon a gnome, he drew a mathematical design, the sign of a bull in blue chalk, then recited an incantation while pointing the sword at the bull's horns at the syllable breaks. The gnome who materialized was a little man with a shocking, detestable voice. The narrator identified it with the ancient Pictish and Celtic Little People, with dwarfs, trolls, kobolds, brownies, and leprechauns. [RB Hell (online text)] Axenos the Elder used the Star of Sechmet to command the gnomes. [RB Sorcerer (online text)] On the planet Loth, the Burgomaster of a village near the Black Tower of the Southlands had a gnome among his ancestors [RHB Black]. |
