Nug and Yeb

The offspring of Yog-Sothoth and Nyarlathotep. Nug was an ancestor of Cthulhu, and Yeb was possibly an ancestor of Tsathoggua. [HPL Family (online text)]

"Yog-Sothoth's wife is the hellish cloud-like entity Shub-Niggurath, in whose honour nameless cults hold the rite of the Goat with a Thousand Young. By her he has two nameless offspring—the evil twins Nug & Yeb. [...] As for little Nug & Yeb (only 10 feet in diameter when in their average form)—they are a bit destructive sometimes, though it's only a playful, good-natured roughness. I like to have the little fellows about (even though they sometimes do dissolve visitors & passers-by, & cause occasionally troublesome enquiries), for they are basically very friendly & companionable. I imagine they must be something like Howard, the baby ghoul—in temperament, though not in appearance." [HPL to Willis Conover, Jr., Sept. 23, 1936] "Howard, the baby ghoul" is an item that Conover supposedly sent to famous sci-fi fan Jack Darrow, but which was returned by Darrow.

Clark Ashton Smith seems to imply that Nug is an offspring or descendant of Cxaxukluth. Smith also seems to indicate that Nug had an offspring named Ptmâk who in turn was a parent of Cthulhu (Tulu). [CAS Pnom]

In ancient Mu, T'yog believed that Nug and Yeb were among the gods friendly to man, ready to side with man against Ghatanothoa. T'yog hoped that Shub-Niggurath and her sons would side with him; from the context, it is likely that Nug and Yeb are these sons. [HPL Aeons (online text)]

On an unspecified planet, two beings underwent prolonged punishment for attempting to rob Yeb, who was Azathoth's son's son and was considered to be a child. The locals referred to Yeb as the venerated patron and the Sublime Overlord. On that planet, there is a festival every year at Black Mountain to worship and honor a nail-paring of Yeb. The worship was an "involved and loose-moraled ceremony" involving witches and human sacrifice. One year, the demon Garoth attended the ceremony out of curiousity and even took charge of it, on the grounds that he was the most powerful being present. But Garoth fled when Yeb himself showed up at the ceremony with Shub-Niggurath and Yog-Sothoth. [RHB Garoth].
