2. Fire Beings, of the Great Old Ones (3)

In Derleth stories, the Fire beings are a subgroup of the Great Old Ones (3) that are associated with the Fire element.[3] The only known member of the Fire beings is Cthugha,[2][4][5] along with his servants the Flame Creatures.[1][2]

There is conflict between the Great Old Ones who are associated with different elements. According to Paul Tuttle, the Fire Beings oppose the Earth Beings, "but nevertheless, they together hate and fear the Elder Gods and hope always to defeat them in some future time."[3] Upton Gardner believed that the Fire Beings were opposed to both the Earth Beings and Water Beings.[2]

Laban Shrewsbury suggested setting the amorphous spawn who serve the Earth-beings Nyarlathotep and Shub-Niggurath against the Flame Creatures of Cthugha.[1]
